PORTRAIT PAINTINGS

Welcome to my portrait painting site. Oil portraits of families in informal settings are a specialty of mine, and one of the areas of my art that I most enjoy. These paintings are designed not only to capture the family members themselves, but how and where the family enjoys spending time together. It is meant to be a true portrait of a family enjoying living together, to capture and celebrate this in time.

If you are considering commissioning a portrait, we can meet and discuss the idea. Then, we can plan the specifics of your portrait process. Each painting requires a slightly different process, to best suit the unique people involved, but in general, the first thing we do after deciding to go ahead is schedule a sitting.

This sitting process involves my creating reference images, which may include sketches and usually photos (this is almost always the case with portraits of children). Then I will decide what image best captures the family, to my eye, and I will create one or two small oil studies, which I will then send along to you. These will give the basic ideas for the composition for the painting.

After approval of a composition by you, I will begin work on the final painting. This usually will be completed within three to six months of the initial sitting.

Your input into the process is welcome. I have never had a commission where those closest to the subjects of the painting did not have valuable suggestions about the portrait. This is a collaborative effort, and your happiness with the final work as our shared goal.

Prices start at $1800 and vary depending on size and number of figures.
